The Ideological Underpinnings of Factions in Contemporary African Conflicts
This study deconstructs the ideological underpinnings of key actors in contemporary African conflicts, linking metaphysical thought to tactical movements. It posits that armed groups' ideology has shifted into a "pragmatic tool" for justifying violence and political mobilization. The researcher examines three trends and their ties to post-2011 US policy: the fragmentation of the Muslim Brotherhood creating "Brotherhood Jihadism"; Salafi-Jihadism (Boko Haram/Al-Shabaab) and its shift to targeting societies; and Christian extremist movements (LRA/Anti-Balaka). The study concludes that armed violence has replaced missing ideologies dynamic exploited by global powers to keep Africa in perpetual tension. Keywords: African Conflicts; Ideological Underpinnings; Muslim Brotherhood; Salafi-Jihadism; Christian Extremism; Political Pragmatism.
